buildingSMART International Conference 2006 - April 5th, Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Promenadeplatz 2-6, Munich
"buildingSMART – Optimizing the workflow of design, construction and operation based on building information models (BIM)"
The buildingSMART International Conference 2006, as part of the 10th Industry Day of the IAI German Speaking Chapter,
took place under the auspices of the Lord Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, on 5th April 2006 in the famous Hotel Bayerischer Hof.
More than 300 participants from all over the world - representatives of public authorities, from ministries, project developers,
construction industry enterprises, architects, engineers and software developers - had followed the invitation of the IAI German Speaking Chapter.
The reception at the Old Town Hall of Munich on 4th April marked the beginning of the international conference. Rosemarie Hingerl,
town councillor responsible for the construction industry, gave the welcome speech on behalf of the Lord Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude.
Information exchange and sharing of experiences
The conference focussed on forward-looking integration strategies, on integrated information management in planning and construction,
and on the practical exchange of building information model between all project participants.
Leading international experts demonstrated their achievements within already realized and ongoing construction projects, design work
and presented far-reaching reseach and development work. The successful mixture of excellent presentations, well attended panel discussions,
and an exibition within the foyer offered a great oppertunity to all participants to take ideas, experiences and motivations back to their
working places.
"Get over it!"
The slogan "get over it!" by Mario Guttman, Vice President and CAD Director of HOK Architects, USA,
had become the motto for the buildingSMART International Conference.
All speakers agreed: the use of building information models (BIM) is a precursor for better collaboration during design, construction and operation phases.
All participants in a project could benefit from a neutral platform like IFC.
Building Information Models are the Future
Another highlight of the conference: during the panel discussion presidents and CEOs of leading international software companies including Autodesk, Graphisoft, Nemetschek, Bentley und Oracle
made a strong commitment to IAI, IFC and its objective "buildingSMART".
